Throughout April, the idea that Manchester City could return for Boubacar Kamara – a player they have been following from a very young age – came back.

However, despite liking what the 20-year-old had to offer, they found themselves faced with the fact he didn’t really want to leave, happy where he is and getting regular first-team football.

André Villas-Boas, who now manages Marseille, has used the player both as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder, showcasing the youngster’s ability to both defend and pass, which would suit Pep Guardiola down to a T.

Down their end, the Ligue 1 side have to sell this summer to balance their books with €60m in sales to fund their own transfer period, which is why La Provence are reporting that faced with the right offer, the French club would have to accept it.

The local newspaper explain that figure is around €40m, which wouldn’t be too demanding for a club of Manchester City’s stature.

The Cityzens aren’t mentioned in this article per se, but there’s been enough floating around for years, and more specifically recently, to suggest that if a door opened, they would end up sniffing around.

The key to that door is a €40m cheque, but then comes the task of convincing Kamara, who very recently became a father, of uprooting his family to move away from the south of France to the north of England.

Not an easy feat.
