Since Edu Gaspar took a job at Arsenal, the Gunners have been linked with a large number of players from Brazil or the Brazilian league.

In the past year, the club signed the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Pablo Mari and David Luiz, besides going after a few more targets.

São Paulo youngster Walce was one of these names, as revealed by club director Alexandre Pássaro a few months ago. He claimed that Edu Gaspar had been personally negotiating for the signing.

Now Globo Esporte back up the contacts. They say the youngster has drawn attention from foreign scouts, and Arsenal made ‘a few approaches’ for his signing.

But the Gunners ended up going for the other option, which was Flamengo’s Pablo Mari. The Spaniard joined the Premier League side on a loan deal, and can be permanently signed this summer.

Since Walce is 21 years of age, perhaps he could remain a target for the future. He suffered a knee injury right after Arsenal’s approach, and is now working on his recovery, which should take eight months.
