What do you think is the deal of the summer? Paul Pogba to Manchester United? N’Golo Kanté to Chelsea? Maybe even Islam Slimani to Leicester City?
All good shouts, but if you were to ask Furio Valcareggi, Emanuele Giaccherini’s agent, his answer would be Emanuele Giaccherini to Napoli.
Out of favour for a long time at Sunderland, the 31-year-old spent last season on loan at Bologna, where he experienced something of a resurrection, earning himself a spot in his country’s squad for the European competition.
Now at Napoli for a fee of around €1.5m, Giaccherini is apparently the best deal for any club over the course of the summer, according to his representative, who was speaking to Radio Crc, relayed by Calciomercato.
He said: “He’s ready to play anywhere, and Napoli have taken to him. I think Giaccherini will be this summer’s coup, because Napoli paid his transfer for €1.5m, and it’s like finding a wallet full of cash on the floor.”
Lovely simile, but that’s not quite the correct attitude, is it? If you find a wallet on the floor with lots of money in it, please take it to your nearest police station and declare it as lost.
