Marseille striker Bamba Dieng could join Leeds United on deadline day after the two clubs ‘reached an agreement’ on a transfer.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the Whites have moved quickly to add the striker Jesse Marsch needs on the final day of the window.

The newspaper reports that the 22-year-old ‘is to join Leeds’, having initially looked like he was set to join Lorient.

According to their information, Leeds reached an agreement with Marseille for the player this morning, although the transfer fee is yet to be revealed.

They say that the player is now set to fly to England ‘in the next few hours’, presumably for a medical and to complete the move.

RMC Sport also confirm that Leeds are interested, but don’t go as far as their counterparts, instead saying that Leeds have only ‘approached’ Marseille about a transfer.

La Provence, meanwhile, are pessimistic and their chances of getting the striker, even if a deal with Marseille has been struck.

Their journalist Alexandre Jacquin reports that Dieng is ‘still in the reflection phase’ at this moment in time, waiting to make a decision on his future.

He would have preferred to have been loaned out to Lorient and not sold permanently and thus would be hesitant about a move to Leeds.

Even if that is on the cards neither the player nor his entourage have been ‘contacted directly’ about a move to Elland Road. According to him ‘they will think’ before making a decision on the player’s future.

That would suggest a move is not quite as advanced as L’Equipe are suggesting, but there is certainly a belief that Leeds are in negotiations with Marseille in an attempt to make it happen.
