Pisa midfielder Andrea Lazzari has told the Italian media he always had a desire to join the Serie B side. Lazzari signed for Pisa after the transfer deadline as a free agent, but was also linked with a move to Leeds United.

Speaking to Tutto Pisa, the 31-year-old was asked why he took the decision to sign for Pisa despite the attentions from other clubs like Leeds United. Lazzari said Pisa would have always been the club he joined after leaving Bari, and he didn’t have a second thought joining them. The midfielder revealed it was his desire to sign for the Tuscan club, and not to look for a bigger salary which prompted him to move there.

“As far as I’m concerned, coming to Pisa was a choice I would have done from the beginning, I thought I’d take it forward: it is the passion that led me to make this choice, not a matter of money. When my agent told me I had no doubts,” said the former Fiorentina player.

Lazzari was linked with a number of Italian clubs during the summer, and also in England with Leeds United. The footballer played under Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino during his 3 seasons with Cagliari, and during the last transfer window he hinted he would welcome a reunion with his former boss.

Whilst under Cellino at Cagliari the player made nearly 100 appearances before getting his big move to Fiorentina. The midfielder has also represented Italy U21s on 9 occasions.
