Leeds United may have been handed a new chance to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri as he is planning to make a ‘new attempt’ to leave the German side in January.

That’s according to Kicker, relayed by Fussball Transfers, who say the 27-year-old is ‘aiming for a move’ six months before the end of his contract.

Leeds were linked with a move throughout the summer transfer window as they looked to rebuild Daniel Farke’s squad following a series of departures following relegation to the Championship.

They appeared to have sealed Amiri’s signature on several occasions, with the player agreeing terms with the club, travelling to Leeds and all seemingly going well.

There was a late twist in the tale, though, as Amiri decided to perform a late U-turn on his decision to move to Elland Road and remain with Bayer Leverkusen.

That’s a choice it appears he has come to regret, and Kicker now report that he is ‘still aiming’ for a move in the January transfer window.

According to their information, Amiri wants to rid himself of the ‘family influence’ that ‘cost him his move’ in the summer.

Leverkusen are happy to let him go now if a ‘reasonable offer’ is put on the table as it would be their last opportunity to collect a fee before his contract comes to an end. What figure they are looking at isn’t mentioned.

Whether Leeds want to revive their interest is up for debate after the manner in which Amiri treated them in the summer, but the chance is there should they wish to explore it.
