Newcastle United were credited with an interest in Gonçalo Inácio in the summer window, and the Sporting star continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League side.

On October 10th, Radio Renascença stated the Magpies are refusing to ‘go crazy’ to sign the 22-year-old after their scouts assessed his progress.

That suggestion seems to have been dismissed by today’s A Bola, as they claim Newcastle are in the mix for the defender.

On Wednesday, AS reported Real Madrid are trying to get ahead of Premier League sides to sign the centre-back in January. This is relayed by A Bola, who then share their own update on this case.

It’s claimed the Portugal international has been ‘placed in the route’ of several Premier League sides, including Newcastle. He’s now emerged as an objective for Los Blancos, and they aim to overcome competition from English clubs to secure his services in January.

Back in August, the player signed a new contract until 2027 and that also saw his release clause increase from €45m to €60m.

The report states the Lions are ‘not willing to lower even a cent’ as their intention is to try to negotiate a sale after this season.

In addition to this, Sporting will be without Ivory Coast’s Ousmane Diomande at the start of next year, due to his participation at AFCON.

These factors would make it difficult for Real Madrid to sign the player in January.

A Bola add Sporting believe Inácio will be a ‘big transfer’ next summer, when it’s suggested Newcastle would likely be in the mix to land him.
