Manchester City have emerged as an option for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, as per claims.

The midfielder has a deal expiring in 2025, and Sport1 state his renewal ‘doesn’t seem to be a foregone conclusion’.

The 28-year-old hasn’t ‘felt the trust’ of the club in the last few months, and wants to wait and see how things develop at Bayern before making a decision on his future.

Sport1 chief reporter Kerry Hau insists it won’t be easy for the Bundesliga side to extend the Germany international’s deal. If there’s no renewal, next summer would be Bayern’s last big chance to cash in from his sale.

If the player were to decide to leave, Hau claims he’ll have ‘good options’ abroad, and names Manchester City and Barcelona as potential destinations. The reporter adds he’s ‘very valued’ by these two clubs.

Sport1’s claim is relayed by today’s Mundo Deportivo, who then provide their own update on this case. They state that apart from Barcelona and Manchester City, Real Madrid are also an option for the Bayern player.

Kimmich has been the priority target for Xavi Hernández, even before they signed Oriol Romeu in the last window. He isn’t at his best at the Bavarian club and had seriously considered leaving them in the summer.

It’s claimed Bayern could open the door for their star to leave next summer, if he doesn’t sign an extension. Although this would please Xavi, it won’t be easy for the La Liga side to secure his services due to their poor economic conditions.

Mundo state La Liga’s fair play regulations won’t allow Barca to sign a midfielder in the winter market but the situation may change after this season. However, they would face competition from Manchester City to sign Kimmich.

The Citizens, on the other hand, wouldn’t have any financial concerns to take the German away from Bayern. Pep Guardiola knows him well and has managed the player when he was at the Allianz Arena.

On Mundo’s front page, it’s pointed out that Kimmich is ‘not comfortable’ at Bayern, and that’s why he hasn’t renewed his contract.

He could be well within Barca’s reach next summer, but they will have to be wary about Manchester City and Real Madrid as these two teams also follow him.
