Leeds United star Joel Piroe has admitted he ‘dreams of the Premier League’, whether he can get there with the club or someone else.

The striker turned attacking midfielder has been speaking to ESPN in the Netherlands about his career so far and where it may take him in future.

He moved to Elland Road from Swansea in the summer, the latest step in a career that has already seen him play for Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and Sparta Rotterdam.

Before his move to Leeds in the summer he had been linked with a move to the Premier League, where several clubs were reported to be considering a move after his fine performances and numbers for Swansea.

He instead elected to join the Whites and be a part of their rebuild under Daniel Farke, as they look to quickly get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking this season.

That’s going to plan so far as Leeds sit fourth in the table and firmly in the play-off places, although they are eight points behind second placed Ipswich and 14 behind leaders Leicester.

A return to the Premier League is very much the plan for all involved, including Piroe, who is convinced they can make it while he remains at the club.

“Although there is quite a gap between us and number two Ipswich Town, we are still very confident,” he said.

“Such a gap can quickly disappear, so we know that everything is still possible. Our goal is to be promoted immediately.

“I want to get into the Premier League with Leeds and show myself at that level. I am convinced this is possible. In the long term I want to earn a step higher again. I have adapted well to a higher level throughout my career so far, so I am confident that I can continue to do so.

“I see my seasons in the Championship as training years for the Premier League and now I want to experience first-hand why everyone calls this the best league in the world.

“I dream of the Premier League, but I could certainly play in another country. The Eredivisie is certainly an option, but at that moment I am fully focused on the Premier League.”
