While the transfer of Joe Worrall from Nottingham Forest to Besiktas has yet to be made official, there is a good chance it will happen.

The player had already travelled to watch a game ahead of the move, and while it appears to be a loan at first, the deal isn’t exactly setting tongues wagging in Turkey.

One of those criticising the decision to go after the Nottingham Forest centre-back is Gürel Yurttaş, who penned a column for Yenicag Gazetesi about how disappointing this is.

While the fans may be happy to actually be signing a central defender, which the club sorely needs, the fact is Worrall doesn’t have the CV many feel a Besiktas player should have.

As pointed out by Yurttaş, the defender has spent most of his time playing in the Championship instead of the Premier League.

He adds: ‘I claim that this was a hasty transfer that was not planned before because the fans started to grumble. This is a fact. Hasan Arat did not inherit a good legacy.

‘Ahmet Nur Çebi left a wrecked team with a penniless club, but the Arat administration has not been able to put a stone on top of a stone so far. I’m sure Worrall is not one of the players Fernando Santos wants’.

Worrall is a product of Nottingham Forest’s academy, and while he has spent time away on loan at the likes of Dagenham and Redbridge and Rangers in Scotland, he has spent all of his career with the Tricky Trees.

He has 168 appearances in the Championship in his career, compared to 37 in the Premier League, backing up what Yurttaş was saying.
