Leeds United’s late move for Burnley’s Manuel Benson is off after Vincent Kompany convinced him to remain at Turf Moor.

That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who reports that Kompany has convinced the player to turn down Leeds’ interest and fight for his place at Burnley.

Benson has been linked with a move away from Burnley throughout this month after barely featuring under Kompany this season, despite being a key player throughout their successful campaign last year.

That was naturally frustrating for him and a return to Championship with Leeds was offered until the end of the season, as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking themselves.

A deal appeared to be progressing but Tavolieri says it is now off after Kompany spoke to the Burnley man and convinced him to stay at the club until the end of the season.

Benson was swayed by that conversation and is not totally focused on Burnley and helping them stay in the top flight, meaning his move to Leeds is ‘now off’ after a deal with Southampton also fell to pieces.
