Pierre-Michel Lasogga to Leeds United seemed like a relatively straightforward transfer at the outset.

Hamburg were very keen to see the player go, would accept a loan, didn’t want a loan fee, and would continue to pay part of the striker’s wages.

Once Leeds United interest was established, the road looked pretty straight. But Lasogga himself wanted to make sure the transfer was right for him.

There was no point in moving to Elland Road and then regretting it instantly. Lasogga is also about to become a father, so it was a big family decision as well to move to Yorkshire, whether the intention is doing so temporarily or permanently.

Given the difficulties, Victor Orta has had to put some work in, and he’s received a namecheck from Lasogga. The 25 year old has been speaking to Sky Deutschland about his transfer, and explained: “Not only the coach but also the sporting director Victor Orta wanted to have me absolutely. It’s a nice feeling when people trust you.”

Orta’s faith was a big difference from what he’d been experiencing in Hamburg, when the manager and club both wanted him out: “I’ve had a hard time going home after training, and knowing I won’t be taken into consideration during the weekend, no player wants that.”

Now for a happier chapter at Leeds United.
