At €15m, the fact that no Premier League club made a serious move for Ryad Boudebouz will forever remain a mystery, but the Algeria international is on the verge of completing his move to Real Betis in Spain.
West Ham did make an attempt, which Le Buteur on Monday morning confirm, but the offer they presented the player just wasn’t enough to convince the playmaker to choose them.
According to the Algerian website, who spoke directly with the player about the move, the La Liga club’s proposal was ‘far superior’ to the Hammers’, as well as Besiktas’.
It would be interesting to find out what West Ham actually offered Boudebouz, as you would think they would be able to give him far superior wages to Real Betis, but, then again, football isn’t always about money.
The 27-year-old also revealed to Le Buteur that, if everything went to plan, he was expecting to complete his transfer on Monday.
Over in Montpellier, the club’s president said the deal wasn’t completely done, with a few details still needing to be ironed out.
It seems like West Ham have left a good player slip through their fingers, here.
