Maybe it’s time to start taking Juventus’ interest in Emre Can more seriously.
Italian newspapers often write stories about the many targets a club has, and that’s when players get linked to a certain side only once. That’s how the Liverpool midfielder had been mentioned in the past, but now Tuttosport is making the chase sound like quite a thing for the summer market.
On Wednesday, the Turin newspaper claim the Old Lady have an offer ready to be made. That offer consists of €25m plus bonuses, and still considered, even in Italy, to be a little bit low.
Juventus reportedly see Can as a very complete midfielder, the perfect heir for Sami Khedira.
The Liverpool player’s age is what convinced the club to move for him, since despite having three good players for the position, all of them have gone past 30.
All that money may sound a lot for a player whose contract is expiring in an year, but Juventus have good reasons.
Firstly, because Liverpool are working hard for Can to extend his deal, so the Italian side want to convince the player they’re serious. Secondly, the signing of Alex Sandro from Porto has showed the club it’s worth spending to guarantee a player before they could otherwise sign him for free.
The Sandro deal has also show Juventus the benefits of bringing a player and easing him into the team, initially as a support to more experienced players.
Given all of that €25m is considered high enough to make it clear Juventus are seriously interested, but perhaps not quite enough to convince Liverpool.
