Liverpool star Darwin Núñez is an option for Barcelona to bolster their attack, according to Sport.
Robert Lewandowski has been the first-choice striker at the Camp Nou and will turn 36 years of age in August. The La Liga side have to find a replacement, at least in the near future, if not in the summer window.
Núñez arrived at Liverpool from Benfica in 2022, two years after he joined the latter from UD Almería.
Barca had shown interest in the 24-year-old before moving to Portugal and had reached an agreement with Almería for €8m. The report states the deal didn’t take shape in the end because of their then manager, Ronald Koeman, not being convinced.
Since joining the Reds, the Uruguay international has scored 33 goals and registered 17 assists from 93 games. Despite that, there’s been speculation around his future in the past few days.
It’s been fuelled further by the player himself, by making a trip to Barcelona, to meet his compatriot, Ronald Araújo, and deleting all Liverpool related pictures from his Instagram profile.
Sport state the South American hasn’t fully adapted at Liverpool, and therefore the two parties are surprisingly thinking about parting ways in the next window.
They add Núñez’s agent Jorge Mendes has offered him to the Catalan club, as an option if Lewandowski were to leave after this season.
