Leeds United’s idea to have Albertus Schreuder as their new manager isn’t the only reason why the Dutch media has been speaking about him.

With the coach losing his job at Ajax last month, there are still a few scenarios where local pundits recall the poor job done by him at the Eredivisie giants.

So as Voetbal International reporter Simon Zwartkruis talked about Ajax’s weekend’s match, he’d been speaking of the job done by John Heitinga, and recalled some flaws that Schreuder had there, long before being linked to the Leeds job.

“You can see that the smile is back within the selection. You can see that a thundercloud has moved away. This was partly due to communication. That was not Alfred Schreuder’s strongest point, to say the least. With John Heitinga everything was clear from the start,” said Zwartkruis (via Ajax Showtime).

“As a coach, it is important that you explain things to players. This way you ensure clarity for players. Schreuder missed this. Many players didn’t know where they stood.”

Schreuder took charge of Ajax last summer, following the departure of Erik ten Hag to Manchester United, and stayed at the club until the end of January 2023.

In his 26 matches in charge of the club, he had 12 wins, seven draws and seven losses.

As reported by the Dutch media today, Leeds United had indeed held talks to have him as their new manager, but a disagreement at the club board stopped their pursuit, with him returning to the Netherlands as soon as the negotiations collapsed.
