While everyone at Everton celebrates the arrival of the Friedkin Group as potential new owners, it’s fair to say they’re not quite as happy at AS Roma.
And, if the various comments coming out of Italy are anything to go by, the American group’s efforts to calm any fears have fallen on deaf ears.
Roma Forever cover various comments on the matter today and it seems a large portion of those watching have been left unconvinced by the group’s latest statement.
Ever since the Friedkin Group showed an interest in Everton earlier this year, and indeed entered a period of exclusivity to buy them, Roma fans have been concerned about where that may leave their club.
While statements in the media insisted that Roma would not be forgotten and would in fact remain the jewel in the crown, realists pointed out that the lure of the Premier League and potential to earn huge sums there would inevitably sway favour toward Everton.
That is something the Friedkin Group tried to bat away with their statements on Roma’s official website yesterday, insisting their focus was on the Italian club and getting them back to their best after a turbulent few weeks.
But that is a message that hasn’t stuck with some, who believe it will only be a matter of time before attentions are turned to Merseyside full time.
“I don’t know how long the fans will believe the words that were said,” said former goalkeeper Nando Orsi.
“In these months, something hasn’t gone right, it’s clear that something has gone wrong in the staff. In the hierarchies between the two clubs, I don’t think the Giallorossi will remain at the top in their preferences,” added journalist Sandro Sabatini.
“The Friedkins are so unpredictable that they could even leave Roma once the Everton stadium is finished,” concluded former Roma player Roberto Pruzzo.
