As Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero this week spoke to the Latin America media, he shared a view on the rivalry there is between Spurs and Arsenal.

With the North London Derby taking place a couple of weeks ago, he tried to explain how much that means to those clubs and their supporters.

Quoted by El Diario De Carlos Paz, Romero ended up making a peculiar comparison, saying the match between Tottenham and Arsenal is similar to the one between Belgrano and Talleres.

“I compare it to a Belgrano vs. Talleres, which I had to play when I was in Argentina. The fans are different, it’s true, but the intensity and emotions that come through you inside are the same.”

When thinking of Argentine football, it’s natural to think about the big clasico between River Plate and Boca Juniors. But besides being a city derby, that’s also the biggest match in the country, and Romero was just trying to bring it back to a city level, so he mentioned Belgrano and Talleres, who are both based in Cordoba.

In the same interview, Romero also found out that Messi claimed he’s the best defender in the world. The Tottenham player was surprised by the quotes, and clearly touched with such a strong statement. That’s via TyC Sports.

“Leo said this? I didn’t know that. I’m grateful that words like that come from the best player in the history of football, I’m not saying it because he’s Argentinian but because I like football. When he says something like that about me it’s very nice. I didn’t know if he had really said it, I saw some things on social media but I didn’t know if they were true.”
