Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has laid out his big problem with the current team, following the disappointing defeat to Galatasaray on Tuesday.

The Manchester United boss was speaking to Brazilian journalist Fred Caldeira following the game in which United were beaten 3-2 by the Turkish side at Old Trafford.

It was another disappointing evening for the Red Devils, who twice led in the game thanks to goals from striker Rasmus Hojlund, who was unfortunate not to end with a hattrick and all three points in an impressive individual performance.

Instead, he and the rest of his team left with none as defensive lapses let Galatasaray back into the game on three occasions, the last seeing striker Mauro Icardi race free and convert cooly, with ten-minutes remaining, to win it for his side.

It was another poor showing from Manchester United, who are enduring a difficult start to the season despite another summer of reshaping the squad for Ten Hag.

There have been mitigating circumstances, with injuries and issues with players such as Jadon Sancho and Antony limiting the Dutch coach’s options, and highlighted his problems in his comments to Caldeira.

“We were twice in control of the game and then we make some fundamental errors where we get lost in the game and lose it,” he said.

“It’s obvious that we are a little bit unbalanced on the left side, but we need to deal with that as a squad. We should have done better. That’s the situation we are in.

“But let’s not forget we were twice up and scored some great goals. It was a good five-minute period for the team, but we have to do better in the connection and the defending.”
