As the Spanish media still talk about West Ham United’s chase for Real Betis defender Luiz Felipe, they now realise the Hammers won’t be insisting on signing him.

A story from AS today explains that the La Liga side ‘still have hope’ of making money with the centre-back’s sale, as an ‘unexpected’ interested club should show up in the coming days.

That won’t be West Ham, though, as despite their recent chase for Luiz Felipe, they ended up signing Konstantinos Mavropanos from VfB Stuttgart.

It’s pointed out that the Hammers have just paid the same €20m that Betis were expecting to make with their player.

That makes it ‘impossible’ that West Ham will be back for Luiz Felipe, and that leaves the Spanish side in a situation where they can just hope someone else will be interested.

Mavropanos was the Hammers’ third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Edson Alvarez from Ajax and James Ward-Prowse from Southampton. In total, the club spent €92.8m so far. And judging by recent rumours, there could be more to come.
