Antony has taken further steps to complete his move to Manchester United as he travelled to England on Monday to carry out medical examinations and sign a contract with the Premier League side.

At the weekend, the Red Devils reached a final agreement with Ajax for the winger’s transfer. The constant pressure from him on the Dutch club saw them give up in the end.

Prior to agreeing a deal for the 22-year-old, Manchester United saw multiple bids rejected by the Eredivisie winners. Their decision to turn down offers didn’t please the player, who had stopped training with them for over a week.

Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder appeared as a guest on Ziggo Sport’s program, Rondo. Marco van Basten asked him whether his side chose to fine the Brazil international for skipping multiple training sessions.

“Certainly. [It’s] not good. It’s a shame it happened. Personally, I just think it’s bad. I think that’s weird. He was eventually addressed about that,” he said, relayed by Voetbal International.

“If you’re Ajax, it’s just bad that this happens. I understand if you’re disappointed for a day or two, but you’re also a professional. But within a few days you will understand what is going on. Then I’ll just continue with the guys who are there.”

Reports in the Dutch press had indicated Schreuder was against the South American’s sale. His views were outweighed by the Amsterdam club’s decision makers and that allowed the attacker to seal a move to Manchester United.

“Of course, there are several people who decide about it. I just think it’s bad it happens. I’m angry about it tooWhat are we doing now? That frustrates you as a trainer. Then I think: you’re just a player,” Schreuder explained.

“You just have to do your thing. I talk to him about it and hear his side of the story. You try to brush it off as a trainer and move on with the guys you do have. But my personal feeling is that it’s just bad.”

A move to Old Trafford will see Antony reunite with his former manager, Erik ten Hag, and his former teammate Lisandro Martínez.
