Southampton have become the latest Premier League side to join the chase for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo.

At the weekend, the forward admitted that Manchester United are a serious option, while there are other clubs interested in him. Nottingham Forest have been in the picture for a while, but have failed to sign him so far.

There was an expectation that the Red Devils would make a move, but that step has now been taken by Southampton as they have reported their interest in Gakpo to the Dutch side.

That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who state the Saints ‘want to pay tens of millions’ to secure the Netherlands international’s services. It’s claimed the English club are ‘willing to offer’ more than the €25m fee proposed by Forest.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side have not yet made an official bid, but have ‘made it clear’ that an offer of around €35-40m could arrive at PSV if there is a transfer.

AD state that ‘it does look like Gakpo will be sold’ and suggest there may be other clubs apart from Southampton wanting to sign him before the window closes.
