Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen has insisted he was ‘very happy’ with his loan spell at Everton, hinting he would have been more than open to stay at the club.

Olsen is currently on loan at Villa Park, having joined from Roma in the January transfer window, cutting short a spell with Sheffield United to do so.

It’s his third loan spell in England after spending last season with Everton as back up for number one Jordan Pickford.

He only made 11 appearances for Everton across that spell, playing second fiddle to Pickford in the Premier League and largely featuring in the cups or when the England number one was out injured.

The Toffees did not elect to make the move a permanent one when it came to an end in the summer, a decision largely dominated by a lack of finances and Carlo Ancelotti’s departure.

And it seems that is something Olsen was not particularly happy about, indicating he would have been more than happy to stay at Goodison Park.

“You want to play the games,” he told Fotboll Skanalen.

“But then there’s a lot going on. I was very happy to be at Everton, but then there were things there that meant there was nothing more there after that.

“That’s the way it is. It’s not something I can do anything about. Now I got the opportunity to go to Aston Villa instead, and I’m very happy about that. If I get the chance, I know I’m prepared.”
