Newcastle United star Alexander Isak has suffered a groin injury on two occasions this season.

On Monday, the Sweden international revealed this is a “bit of a recurring” problem and had also suggested Eddie Howe rushing him back from an injury hasn’t helped him either.

The striker has played the full 90 minutes twice for Sweden against Portugal and Albania in this international break. Expressen state this may not be optimal, considering the groin issues faced by the Newcastle player this season.

After Sweden’s 1-0 friendly win over Albania on Monday, the 24-year-old spoke to the Swedish media, where he revealed the Magpies sent several messages to check upon his fitness.

“I have many text messages from Newcastle,” Isak said, as relayed by Expressen.

The former Real Sociedad man was then asked if the Premier League side’s manager is angry at him.

When responding to that, the frontman has provided a positive update on his current physical conditions.

No, I don’t think so. He [Howe] has said that he has great respect for the national team, it’s important for us,” Isak explained.

“It’s mostly the physical trainers and the medical team that have asked, but everything went well. I feel fresh and healthy.”

Taking the attacker’s injury record this season into account, he says “it’s understandable” that the Newcastle physical trainers are checking up on him.

Isak adds they probably wanted him to play as “little as possible” in this international break, which didn’t happen, but he appears fine and should return to St James’ Park without any issues.
