A lot has been made about Antony’s transfer from Ajax to Manchester United in the final days of the transfer window.

The fee didn’t help, of course, as anything nearing the €100m mark makes many eyes bulge and grabs the attention of everyone, but the manner in which the Brazilian forced his club’s hands to agree to it didn’t go down well in the Netherlands.

Alfred Schreuder has moaned about it a number of times, eventually getting Lucas Ocampos as a replacement, as well as Steven Bergwijn earlier on in the window.

He isn’t the only one, however, as former Groningen general manager Hans Nijland told the Voetbal Primeur podcast #Donedeal that he wasn’t impressed with it either.

He said: “We all understand that players can earn a lot more money at Manchester United than at Ajax, but you signed a contract with your full mind. The club has every right to hold you to it. Don’t forget the influence of agents, huh.

“As an agent, you only need one Antony and you are a millionaire, it’s that simple. The pressure is huge, but I think it’s very unprofessional from players. I don’t understand it at all.”

While all this is being said in the press, Antony himself will likely not care one bit, as the Brazilian did get his big move to Manchester United, and almost immediately justified it as he scored on his full debut against Arsenal.

If that is a sign of things to come with him and Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, then we’re pretty sure the Red Devils’ fanbase won’t mind the manner in which he left Ajax either.
