If there’s one man who deserves a huge amount of praise for how he played against Liverpool, it’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Georgia international tore Jürgen Klopp’s defence to shreds on Wednesday night, and was one of the main reasons why they emerged with a 4-1 win over the Reds in the Champions League.

His start to the season in Napoli has been nothing short of spectacular, but his career could have been very different had Tottenham’s Fabio Paratici had his way on two separate occasions.

Firstly, before he moved to Spurs, the director of football, according to Calciomercato, he made an attempt to bring the player to Juventus.

They state Kvaratskhelia ‘arrived in Italy a year late’, because the Italian ‘had practically blocked him from Rubin Kazan’, but the fact he left for Tottenham ‘caused a very well planned operation to be skipped’.

Then, when the player had freed himself from his contract with the Russian side and moved to Dinamo Batumi, he made another attempt, this time on Spurs’ behalf.

Calciomercato explain he ‘had tried to bring him to London, but only with the loan formula’.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough, and Napoli decided to spend €10m on the winger, who already has four goals and an assist in five Serie A games this season.

As for Tottenham, they seemingly went after Richarlison instead, which has worked out quite well for them too.
