Over the summer, there was a time when Chelsea were said to be holding talks with Juventus about some sort of deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Dusan Vlahovic.

Everyone was aware the Blues were trying to get rid of their striker, which is why any transfer of the Serbian would have needed to involve money being sent from Stamford Bridge as well as the Belgian.

Such a move never materialised, though, with the Chelsea player ending up in Rome with AS Roma, and RAI Sport journalist Paolo Paganini, relayed by TuttoJuve, wonders whether such a discourse between the two clubs ever existed.

He said: “Did the ‘firework’ Vlahovic deal to Chelsea for Lukaku and €40m really ever exit? I always wrote here that Juventus’ line was to keep Vlahovic. Whatever. Summer trivia.”

In short, there are some doubting any talks even took place, suggesting that it might have all been a ploy to try and make Lukaku seem more popular than he ever was.

The Chelsea man found some solace in the loan to AS Roma, but he is firmly expected to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer, giving the club another headache to deal with once the next transfer window opens.
