Former Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia admits he is sending ‘positive energies’ to compatriot Pervis Estupiñán over a possible move to Old Trafford.

Estupiñán, who currently belongs to Watford, is currently on loan at La Liga side Osasuna, who he joined on a two-year last summer.

He’s proven to be a massive hit at the Spanish club, making 29 appearances in all competitions and managing one goal and five assists so far.

Those kind of performances have not gone unnoticed, and he has predictably been linked with several big clubs, namely Manchester United.

United were named as suitors for the 22-year-old by Ecuadorian outlet Expresso, which naturally caused a bit of a stir in the country.

Estupiñán later responded to those rumours, admitting he was ‘proud’ of them and even suggesting he would like to do better than Valencia, who spent ten years at the club, winning no fewer than nine trophies, including two Premier League titles.

And it seems he has Valencia’s blessing, with the former United man admitting he would like to see him make the move.

“From here, I send all the positive energies to Estupiñán. Hopefully, it will happen,” El Telégrafo report him saying when asked about the rumour on Instagram.

That was picked up by the Watford man, who responded; “I’m proud to receive the blessings of a reference like you. A big hug.”

Whether both men get their wish and Estupiñán makes the move to Manchester United remains to be seen.

His performances in Spain have certainly been impressive, and there’s no denying that the left-back position is one United need to solve long-term.

Given he’s signed to Osasuna until next season, though, they’d have to jump through a lot of hoops, and probably offer Watford a sizeable fee, to get any deal done.
