PSG manager Christophe Galtier has admitted that striker Hugo Ekitike is not happy with his situation after turning down Newcastle United to join the French giants.
The PSG boss has been speaking to journalists ahead of his side’s clash with Angers in Ligue 1 tomorrow evening.
Among various subjects discussed was that of Ekitike, who arrived at the club on loan from Stade Reims last summer as an addition to their forward line.
He joined them after a breakthrough season last year that saw him bagging 11 goals and five assists in 27 games for Reims.
Those numbers led to increased speculation about his future, with Newcastle keen on him from the January transfer window last year and even making him a priority signing by the summer.
He’s barely featured since then, though, managing just eight starts in the league and just over 1000 minutes of football in all competitions.
That’s led to further speculation about a move, with Newcastle again believed to be keen on him and the possibility of doing a deal for the player despite his previous snub.
Those chances may have now been given a boost as Galtier has admitter that Ekitike is not happy with his current situation.
“There is no problem. Hugo works seriously, he even works more,” he said when asked about the 20-year-old.
“There is also the architecture of the team. He is facing very strong competition with Kylian (Mbappé) and Leo (Messi) who are very successful.
“We will see what will happen in the next matches. There is no problem between Hugo and me. He’s not happy, but he’s working.”
