Harry Kane may have a decision to make on his future in the summer as his current deal at Tottenham Hotspur expires in 2024.

Spurs have a desire to keep their club-record goalscorer beyond next season, while the striker continues to be linked to Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Kane hasn’t won a trophy with Tottenham so far and the wait will extend further as Spurs will finish this season without silverware.

Former Chelsea forward Ruud Gullit is of the belief the England international cannot win a trophy at Tottenham and has asked the striker to leave them.

“If I were him, I’d be selfish and say, ‘I’m leaving’. Many players are loyal to their club, but do not win anything. What good is that? As a footballer you want to win prizes, don’t you,” he told beIN Sports, relayed by Voetbal International.

“When you are not good enough as a player, a club says: ‘Thank you for services rendered’. But if a club is not good enough, then as a player you have to seize the opportunity to win prizes elsewhere.”

The Dutchman won the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven and it was the first major trophy of his playing career. He went on to win multiple trophies at AC Milan, including three Serie A titles. Gullit was able to achieve all these after taking advice from a compatriot.

Gullit remains hopeful Kane can do something similar, so that he doesn’t end up without winning a trophy in his career.

“I am still grateful that I got to play with Johan Cruyff. He said to me: ‘Ruud, if you decide to leave Feyenoord, it will loosen things up and the supporters will not be happy, because you are a very good player. But you have to think of yourself’,” Gullit explained.

“I did that and then went to PSV. We won two trophies and then I could go to AC Milan. The PSV supporters in turn weren’t happy about that, but as I said earlier, as a footballer you want to win prizes. For me, it is ultimately about what you have on your resume after your career.”

Something for Harry Kane to con sider.
