Defender Ozan Kabak has insisted he had a “great six months” at Liverpool despite his time at Anfield largely being considered a failure.

The centre-back has been speaking to the November issue of SPIELFELD, with his comments relayed by Hoffenheim’s official website.

He joined the German side in 2022 in a €7m deal from Schalke after a busy few years of bouncing around various clubs.

He joined Liverpool on loan at the end of the January transfer window in 2021 as the Reds desperately scrambled late on in the window to cover something of a defensive crisis.

He arrived at Anfield with a reputation as a potential start of the future, having been backed for a big rise in Germany after impressing at Stuttgart and then Schalke.

He struggled and often looked out of depth at Liverpool, though, putting in a series of unimpressive and shaky performances that led to plenty of criticism in the second half of that season.

They elected to not make his move a permanent one at the end of the campaign and he instead returned to Germany before a loan with Norwich and then move to Hoffenheim.

On the face of it his time on Merseyside was a complete flop but it seems he doesn’t look at it that way.

“It was a roller coaster ride for me. But it also made me a more mature player and a more mature person at the same time,” he said.

“He (Klopp) is one of the best coaches in the world. I learned a lot from Jürgen Klopp and overall had a great six months in Liverpool.”
