After a lot of back and forth and a late attempt from Everton to try and scupper the deal, Kamaldeen Sulemana is going to leave Rennes and head to Southampton.

This comes from L’Equipe journalist Emery Taisne, who took to Twitter to reveal the news.

Southampton had already made an attempt over the past few days to sign the forward for a fee of €20m, before being joined by Everton, but that was deemed insufficient by the Ligue 1 side.

The Saints, keen to give Nathan Jones some reinforcements to help him edge away from the relegation zone, came back with another offer, which has now been accepted.

Taisne explains the player has ‘chosen Southampton’, and it’s stated the Ghana international has ‘opted for the Saints rather than Everton’.

As for the fee, the Premier League club will pay €25m, which was enough to convince Rennes to let him go, allowing them to make a profit of €8m after they paid Nordsjaelland €17m for him back in 2021.

So far this season, Sulemana has made 20 appearances for Rennes, most of which have been from the bench, scored one goal and picked up two assists, with Southampton clearly ready to give him more game time, beating Everton to his signing.
