Back in May, Chelsea confirmed a consortium led by Todd Boehly had agreed terms to take over the club from Roman Abramovich.

The American billionaire acted as the Blues’ director of football in the summer and now wants to appoint an expert in the position so that they can take care of the sporting aspects of the club.

For the past few days, several reports in the UK and across Europe have stated Chelsea have identified Red Bull Salzburg’s Christoph Freund as one of their targets.

The Austrian champions settled for a 1-1 draw against the Blues in the Champions League last week. After the clash, Freund admitted there has been constant talks with the Blues, but none on bringing him to Stamford Bridge.

Former Red Bull Salzburg manager Adi Hütter worked with Freund in the past and has now urged the 45-year-old to accept the Chelsea job, if it’s made available to him.

“The way he deals with people is great, and he has carried on from Rangnick. For me, this would be the biggest transfer of the last 50 years and I think it’s sensational that he’s being traded at Chelsea today. I wish it would be possible for him to take this step,” Hütter told Sky Sport Austria.

Reports have suggested Andreas Schicker to replace Freund at Red Bull Salzburg, if the latter were to leave for Chelsea. Schicker is currently with third division Austrian side, Wiener Neustädter.

On this possibility, Schicker said, as quoted by Krone: “I don’t worry about that, I’m in good hands in Graz. The work is fun.”
