Everton star Amadou Onana has insisted he is not thinking about a move in the January transfer window as he continues to develop at Goodison Park.

The Belgian has been speaking to DH Net about his time on Merseyside so far after arriving in a big money move from Lille last summer.

The 22-year-old joined the Toffees from the French side in a €35m deal and immediately established himself as a key player under then manager Frank Lampard.

He’s maintained that status since that point, playing a key role as the Toffees eventually avoided relegation under Sean Dyche.

He’s now very much the key man in Dyche’s preferred midfield three and has been earning praise for his performances at the beginning of the season.

As is always the case with a young talent shining at a club in the bottom half of the table, he has regularly been linked with a move away, with Chelsea and Manchester United both named as suitors since January last year.

He was again linked with a move in the summer and recent reports have indicated Manchester United remain keen ahead of the January transfer window.

It seems, though, that the player isn’t interested in the move for the time being, insisting his focus is very much just on improving his game.

“I grew a lot mentally last season,” he said.

“I always fought for trophies or places of honor. The mindset is different, you have to get used to losing almost every weekend. It was hard. The pressure was enormous because there was the weight of the story weighing on our shoulders.

“I would have blamed myself all my life for a club like that to be in the Championship. We were reminded of it daily, so it didn’t come out of my head.”

“I’m still learning. Personally, and football-wise. We have to defend, run and suffer more this season. And I take that stuff.

“For the future, I don’t ask myself too many questions. Only my performance will take me where I want. I’m not thinking about leaving in January.”
