FC Twente have finalised a deal with Everton for defender Nathan Markelo, and the player will join the club for pre-season training on Monday.

Reports earlier this month indicated that the young Everton defender was set to spend the season on loan in the Netherlands, with Marcel Brands determined to secure first-team football for him.

The initial story from Tubantia claimed that Twente were ‘talking’ to the 21-year-old about a move and that Brands was pushing for it.

It was also claimed that Twente wanted the deal wrapped up by July 27th so they could have him in the squad for the start of pre-season.

There has been little talk about the potential transfer since then, but Tubantia provide an update today an explain what is happening.

They say that while the move has not been ‘officially reported’ as yet, the deal with Everton has already been ‘finalised’.

The reason why the club haven’t presented him is because Markelo has had to spend 14 days in quarantine after flying over from England.

That has delayed the process somewhat, but he is now set to be presented as a Twente player on Monday when he will join the club at the beginning of pre-season training.
