West Ham fans likely know all about the Maxi Gomez drama already, but let’s have a recap for Everton supporters.

On Thursday there were multiple reports in Spain that Valencia had agreed to sign the Celta Vigo player for €14.5m, plus some bonuses, plus Santi Mina, plus a defender on loan for two years.

That led to a dramatic action from the Hammers. The club sent representatives to Vigo by private jet, but Celta weren’t in the mood to negotiate, happy with their Valencia deal.

That left West Ham facing paying the €50m clause and having to convince the player. A huge wage offer went in, and then there was even talk of a medical this weekend. Other Valencia sources disagreed, and said Gomez had rejected the London club.

Now Valencia regional journalist Julio Insa has claimed Everton have moved in, and that the Toffees have made a €40.5m offer.

We’ve checked, and can’t find this being claimed anywhere else. Everton interest was referenced by the worst Spanish rumour website this morning, but that will have been made up.
