Yesterday, we covered claims from Brazil which said Liverpool had made a bid for Santos wonderkid Rodrygo. The story, which was published by Globo Esporte, didn’t have many details on how the Brazilian side reacted to it or how much the Reds were offering.

But UOL comes up with an update today, which makes things far more interesting for Liverpool fans who want the signing.

They say Jurgen Klopp’s side made a €5m bid for Rodrygo. And even though the Santos board consider the amount to be too low, the talks are something they find interesting.

Santos are planning to give the 16-year-old a professional contract in the next few weeks, which should protect him with a good release clause, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want to sell.

According to UOL, even though there are directors and fans who think Rodrygo is Santos’ ‘fourth lightning’, following the homegrown players Pelé, Robinho and Neymar, there’s a part of the board who disagree with that.

And since the boy has attracted all this attention, and even signed with Nike at the age of 11, two years younger than Neymar did, the directors who think he’s not that good consider the Liverpool approach a good opportunity to make some money.

That’s why €5m shouldn’t be enough, but a sale before the end of the year is not ruled out.

Something that is still pretty much unclear is when Rodrygo would move to Liverpool, since FIFA does not allow an under-18 player to be transferred abroad.
