Romelu Lukaku moving to Chinese football would certainly be something of a shock. The Everton player has repeatedly spoken about his wish to play in the Champions League, and assuming he specifically means the European version rather than the Asian one, a move to China wouldn’t make sense in that regard.

Should Lukaku leave Everton over the next few windows then the likeliest destination would be a top four club in one of Europe’s most presitgious leagues. Nevertheless, that hasn’t put Tianjin Quanjian manager Fabio Cannavaro completely off the chase.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad about potential interest in several Belgian internationals, the former Italy captain was happy to pinpoint Everton’s striker, and explained: “It is possible to speak with Lukaku. The problem is Everton, who don’t want to let him go. The fact that he is only 23 years old is not the concern. He could vScreen Shot 2017-03-02 at 13.33.00ery well come to China. Look at Oscar. At 25, he left Chelsea for Shanghai SIPG.”

Lukaku himself would surely prove a problem too, and whilst agent Mino Raiola is one of the biggest banking representatives in the game right now, he’s not likely to advise his client on a move to China.
