Over the past month or so, we’ve seen a number of articles suggesting that Fiorentina are considering making the loan move of Lucas Torreira permanent.

The Uruguay midfielder is currently away from Arsenal for the season with the Serie A club after failing to break into Mikel Arteta’s plans, and has impressed in Italy since his return there.

The strong performances at the heart of Fiorentina’s midfield have convinced almost everyone, with their director of football, Daniele Prade, admitting, via Corriere dello Sport, that a meeting with the Gunners is planned.

He said: “We are very satisfied with Lucas’ performance and we will sit down with the English club at the right moment. There is an excellent relationship between the two companies and we will discuss it between the end of March and April”.

That suggests that a permanent transfer could be on the cards for Torreira, who hasn’t been in Arsenal’s plans for a very long time.

He spent last season on loan at Atlético Madrid, which didn’t go well, which is why he pushed for a return to Italy, where he first made a big name for himself at Sampdoria.

The move to Fiorentina has worked wonders, and it could be that Arsenal end the season €15m richer, which was the pre-agreed price.
