Borja Bastón was one of the players to arrive at Aston Villa in the winter market as Dean Smith’s side signed the 27-year-old from Swansea City.

Prior to arriving at Villa Park, there were several claims in Spain that clubs from La Liga were keen on acquiring his services, but none of the interested clubs could get the deal over the line.

The striker has featured in two Premier League matches and his last appearance for Villa came in their 2-0 defeat to Southampton on February 22nd.

Last month, the Madrid born player revealed he rejected other clubs to join Aston Villa and speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, Borja has once again reiterated the same.

“I had several offers, but Villa is a historic club that is in the Premier and I didn’t hesitate,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Borja’s former club Atlético Madrid will take on Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League tie at Anfield on Wednesday. The Spaniard knows what it takes to beat the Reds in their own backyard, having achieved this feat with Swansea in 2017.

“It’s a historic stadium in which people are very tight… Atlético will have to know how to suffer and play for the result. It’s going to be complicated,” Borja stressed.

Diego Simeone’s side have a 1-0 advantage from the first leg and their former player believes the La Liga side can overcome Liverpool to progress to the next stage of the competition.

“I saw a very compact Atlético Madrid, with great players and a great level. They made a difficult match for Liverpool and managed to win. With Simeone, it is difficult to beat them in a tie,” the attacker stressed.

“They [Liverpool] are a great team. Anyone can hurt you. They are a great set and above all, they are very clear about how they play. Atlético has to be Atlético.”
