After a couple of days of strong rumours, the story of Inter’s interest in Tottenham’s Mousa Dembélé took a bit of a backseat in the Italian press.

Rest assured, they haven’t forgotten about it, as Corriere dello Sport, who were the first to bring it up, have reminded everyone on Wednesday the Belgian is still high on the Serie A club’s list for the summer.

However, before anything happens, Inter have bigger fish to fry, like finding €40m down the back of their sofa to comply with FFP regulation before the end of the month.

Until they do that, buying players remains a problem, but that doesn’t mean plans cannot be made in preparation for July and August.

Talks are currently underway between Piero Ausilio, the club’s director of football, and Dembélé’s entourage, but there could be a late addition to the negotiations: Kia Joorabachian.

The agent wouldn’t be involved in the contract talks, however, but more so in the discussions between the two clubs regarding the fee.

Daniel Levy is still said to want €30m for the Tottenham midfielder, which is considered a lot when he only has one year left on his current deal.

There’s also a mention of clubs from China being interested, which is partly why the Spurs president has set the bar so high, knowing they’d happily pay that much should Dembélé feel inclined to travel East.

It seems we might have to wait for the World Cup to finish before this one takes off, since the former Fulham star is going to be in Russia for the foreseeable future.
