With Sporting finding some difficulty signing Viktor Gyökeres from Coventry City, it seems even the Portuguese media got a bit tired of the rumour, as they don’t feature as many big stories about the chase as before.

Still, the pursuit for the striker continues to be a big objective for the Lions this summer, and newspaper Record share a small update on the situation today.

First of all, they feature a story claiming Sporting are interested in signing Tijjani Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar, although they shall only move for him once they are done with the pursuit for Gyökeres.

On that front, it’s claimed that the Coventry City star is now ‘closer’ to the Lions.

It’s once again reported that Sporting chief Hugo Viana went to England to present his offer for Gyökeres. Now it’s said that the bid ‘pleased’ the Championship side, and that ‘left the deal closer to completion’.

Record don’t say the exact numbers on the table, but claim that the transfer would be made for a ‘maximum’ of €20m. With Viana flying to England, the negotiations with Coventry City can only be in the final stages.
