Over the course of the summer transfer window, Nottingham Forest decided to not only revamp their squad, but buy an entirely new one.

Among the many names linked with a move to City Ground was Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi, who could have followed in the footsteps of Remo Freuler, who did make the switch from the Serie A side to Steve Cooper’s team.

In the end, the Ukraine international stayed put, but he hasn’t played all that much, which has led to talk of him being sent away in January.

Gazzetta dello Sport cover this, explaining the player was ‘close to a farewell in the summer’, and the file ‘can be reopened’ in the next transfer window, meaning the Italians are happy to move him on for the right price.

Whether Nottingham Forest will be in the mix remains to be seen, but Tutto Atalanta make it clear that his future at Atalanta ‘seems to be drawing to a close’, as the player is ‘dissatisfied’ in Bergamo.

They go as far as saying the player ‘will try to sell the player definitively at reasonable amounts’, giving Forest another chance to sign him if Cooper wants to bolster this squad even more.

We doubt that, although you never know in football, because if the right opportunity comes along, Nottingham Forest might not want to let it pass again.
