Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool contract expires at the end of June 2023.

Whilst the Reds would like a renewal, and it appears the player sees his future at Anfield, there appears to be issues in the background regarding any offer which has been put forward.

Should no renewal be reached by the summer then it makes an uncomfortable situation for the Premier League club, and they’d have to consider a sale if a good offer arrived on the doormat.

There’s not been a great deal of talk in the European media about possible destinations. Salah has previously been linked with Real Madrid and others, but it’s long been thought he’d simply be too expensive to sign.

Liverpool have shown with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho that they won’t be bullied in the market and sell for prices lower than they believe to be fair, however, the contract situation could put some pressure on that stance.

Maybe the rumours of potential destinations will soon kick off again, with Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo edging Salah forward, and that’s all it is, as an option for Barcelona.

In a big article looking at Barcelona’s alternatives should they fail to sign Erling Haaland this summer, Salah gets a mention at the end.

Barcelona would consider him, and add him to their list of Haaland alternatives, on two conditions.

That his renewal talks remain stalled and Liverpool look for a sale this summer.

This is all embryonic stuff, but will surely grow the longer the situation goes on.
