Alejandro Garnacho is a man, or boy, of the moment.

The 17-year-old Manchester United starlet scored a great goal this week in the semi-finals of FA Youth Cup. That goal against Wolves was his fifth in five matches in the competition, and it all helps the hype rise around the youngster.

And even that wasn’t the biggest news of Garnacho’s week, after he was called up by Argentina’s senior squad. Born in Madrid, the attacker has Argentine citizenship via his mother and is therefore able to represent the South American country.

Saturday’s edition of Sport is in full praise of the Manchester United player.

Sport explain Garnacho is ‘somehow repeating the steps of Lionel Messi’, after Argentina called up the PSG superstar as quickly as possible, to prevent him opting for Spain instead.

Messi made his debut for the country at 18-years-of-age and was abruptly sent off after just two minutes, but Argentina had secured their legend.

The report says Garnacho was one of the ‘most outstanding strikers’ of Atletico Madrid’s academy. Manchester United, who paid around £400k in compensation after taking the player, are said to see him more as an attacking midfielder.

Having ‘fulfilled his dream’ of signing a professional contract at Old Trafford, it’s now expected he’ll take the Argentina offer put forward to him, with Sport saying: ‘Now he will fulfil another: wear the Argentine shirt, that of his mother’s country and train alongside Lionel Messi and the champions of South America.’
