While it appears that Villarreal are in the lead to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham, albeit on loan, there are some urging Fiorentina to not give up.

One of those people is Marco Bucciantini, who spoke to Radio Bruno, relayed by Fiorentina News, where he gave his two cents about the Spurs player.

Fiorentina have been linked with Lo Celso for a while now, but it appears they are also mulling over a move for Nedim Bajrami, currently at Empoli.

The attacking midfielder would clearly be cheaper than the Tottenham player, but Bucciantini believes that sometimes it’s best to spend money on an experienced player than always trying to save some cash by going for the younger and more experimental option.

He said: “I think that Bajrami and Lo Celso are on two different levels. For the mezzala, I would like an operation like Dodo, otherwise it makes little sense. In my opinion, the Empoli player plays a different role, closer to the strikers. Lo Celso is of another level and I think Fiorentina need him to make the leap in quality.

“Italiano himself prefers the Tottenham player. If a player is strong, you should pay. Better to spend €25m on a strong player than one three or four €7-10m players.”

Whether Fiorentina have the €25m to spend on Lo Celso remains to be seen, but if they were to come knocking on Tottenham’s door with that amount, they might find it hard to refuse.
