Aston Villa outcast Frederic Guilbert is a potential target for French side Angers as they look to strengthen their defence before the end of the transfer window.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who says they are ‘considering’ the defender as an option for their right-back position.

Guilbert returned to Aston Villa following a second loan spell at Strasbourg last season, where he was a regular throughout the campaign.

They decided not to make his move a permanent one and as such he has returned to Villa Park, but he is not a part of Steven Gerrard’s plans moving forwards.

Instead, it’s been made clear that he is at a dead end at the club, with it even claimed Aston Villa have lowered their asking price in an attempt to move him on before the end of the window.

He’s been linked with a return to France, and it seems Angers are the latest club to join the list of suitors in his homeland.

L’Equipe say they are ‘interested’ in a deal and considering moving for the former Caen man before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Whether they’re willing to offer Aston Villa a price they’ll be happy to accept but given the want to move Guilbert out, it suggests there’s a deal there to be done and his name is one to keep an eye on.
