On Tuesday, we covered a couple of reports from the Portuguese media regarding Fulham’s interest in Benfica defender Morato.

It was first claimed the Whites had a bid worth €10-12m turned down by the Eagles, and then said the Craven Cottage side will be making a new attempt, since the signing is a personal request from manager Marco Silva.

Today, it’s time for Portuguese newspapers to react to the news, and it turns out they don’t sound very confident Fulham will take Morato from Benfica. One of the stories comes from Record.

The outlet confirms that the Whites offered €12m for the centre-back. Still, it’s said Eagles’ president Rui Costa ‘didn’t give much importance’ to the bid, as he ‘doesn’t think’ about losing the player this summer.

Meanwhile, newspaper O Jogo also cover the €12m bid and say Costa ‘promptly rejected’ the offer. It’s claimed that the president didn’t even share an amount he’d negotiate at.

Now even though both reports make it clear Benfica are not keen on selling, they both say Fulham signalled they should come back with a second attempt. So let’s see how convincing their second bid will be.
