Manchester United target Gélson Martins has reportedly received an offer to extend his contract at Sporting CP.

The player, who currently earns €120k gross per year at the club, could now have his salary raised to €500k, according to Record.

The contract’s expiration date would also be changed, as the current one ends in 2021.

Martins has been frequently linked with Manchester United. The Portuguese press claims that José Mourinho’s side have watched all of the 21-year-old’s games this season, and despite the many scouting reports, the manager will have the final word.

And the most important thing that United should be keeping an eye on is the release clause. Martins’ price today would be €60m, but with the new deal, it should be raised to €80m.

The winger is currently Sporting’s biggest prospect, and given the clubs’ tradition to make it hard for youngsters to leave, it’s very likely they would only sell for a very big fee.

We all know that Manchester United could pay much more than the €500k per year offered by Sporting, so maybe an offer before the extension is signed could be enough to take him from the Portuguese side.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have also been said to be scouting the player, but the Portuguese press keeps putting United at the front of the queue.
