One of the main problems Real Betis have had in their pursuit of Giovani Lo Celso has been the fact they don’t have the money to meet Tottenham’s demands.
That’s because Spurs want somewhere around €25m for their midfielder, and would ideally like to see him leave permanently.
Betis don’t have that, but it was often said that the sale of Sergio Canales (which has now been done, as reported by Sport and confirmed by the clubs) could help towards them bringing in the Argentine to please Manuel Pellegrini.
Sport even state that the money ‘will be used’ to reinvest into a new midfielder, with Lo Celso pointed out as one of the options alongside Pablo Fornals.
While the money received certainly isn’t enough to give Spurs the €25m they want, it could certainly go a long way if they do a paid loan with a mandatory option to buy down the line.
The Argentine spent the last two seasons on loan at Villarreal, and it’s clear that a return to Spain, where he first made a name for himself, would be the preferred option for the midfielder, rather than being cast to one side at Tottenham.
